Hard drive data recovery and warranty implications

Hard drives that have become non-functional through normal use, and have had data recovery performed on them by DriveSavers or Ontrack Data Recovery can be returned to Apple for warranty service. This includes products covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan. The cost of any data recovery attempts is not covered by the Apple Limited Warranty. Apple will process warranty service for hard drives originally installed in Apple products that have been subject to data recovery services by DriveSavers or Ontrack Data Recovery, third-party companies specializing in data recovery services. Apple has worked with both of these companies to ensure that their data recovery methods meet Apple's standards, and will fulfill its warranty obligations if the returned drive has a DriveSavers or Ontrack Data Recovery label indicating that the respective company worked with the drive for data recovery purposes. Typically, if the factory seal on the hard drive is broken or removed, the hard drive will be excluded from coverage, however, if an authorized DriveSavers or Ontrack Data Recovery label is on such a hard drive, Apple will not exclude coverage on that basis. Intel-Based Apple Portables: Identifying the right power adapter and power cord--US

Learn which power adapter, power cord, and plug are appropriate for each Intel-based Apple portable. Keep in mind that size, shape, and color of replacement adapters and cords may vary. Power adapters for Intel based Apple portables are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple portable, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue. For instance If you have a MacBook (13-inch Late 2009) that normally uses a 60W adapter, you can also use an 85W adapter with that computer. You would not use a 45W adapter with that computer; it would not provide enough power for that MacBook. Note: Using an adapter of higher wattage than the adapter that came with the computer will not cause the computer to charge more quickly or otherwise operate any differently than using the adapter that came with the computer.  If you are looking for a PowerPC-based power adapter please use the article PowerPC-Based Apple Portables: Identifying the right power adapter and power cord. Note: This document applies only to the United States. Part numbers are different in other locations. This article is for identification purposes only. If you are looking to troubleshoot a MagSafe adapter issue, please refer to Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe Adapters.[...]

Apple Portables: Advanced tips for Sudden Motion Sensor

Beginning with the PowerBook G4 (12-inch, 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch, 1.67/1.5GHz),  PowerBook G4 (17-inch, 1.67GHz), and iBook G4 (Mid 2005), Apple portable computers feature a Sudden Motion Sensor. Intel-based Apple portables such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air also make use of the Sudden Motion Sensor. Sudden Motion Sensor technology is built-in protection for the hard disk, designed to help prevent disk issues if the computer is dropped or if it senses unusually strong vibration. Apple has adjusted this feature carefully to provide the best balance between protecting the hard drive and preventing unwanted activation of the Sudden Motion Sensor. Most Apple portable owners never need to turn this feature off. Apple suggests that you not modify the settings unless absolutely necessary. In some environments, such as live concert halls, recording studios, or dance clubs, external vibrations may be major enough to cause the module to unexpectedly park the hard drive heads, resulting in interrupted sound or video playback. In these situations, you may find that you want to disable the feature temporarily.[...]
